Popular Forms of Hatha Yoga

* Iyengar: Good for people with physical limitations. Noted for precision alignment and the aid of props, such as cushions, benches, wood blocks and straps.

* Ashtanga: Also called "power yoga." Demanding and athletic. Not for the beginner. Involves moving and jumping through a series of standing and seated postures to build flexibility and stamina.

* Sivananda: Features a series of 12 postures, breathing exercises, relaxation and mantra chanting.

* Kundalini: Focuses on the controlled release of Kundalini "serpent power" energy through postures, breath control, chanting and meditation.

* Kripalu: The "yoga of consciousness." Emphasizes the relationship of postures to concentration and meditation.
