Heart-Lung Transplant Recipient Lives Over 100 Days
August 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese farmer has lived for more than 100 days with a transplanted heart and lungs. Zhang Wenbin, a 31-year old man from the city of Yongkang in east China's Zhejiang Province, was born with a life-threatening heart condition.
In the 1990s, Zhang's heart condition took a turn for the worse and he was diagnosed as having pulmonary hypertension, a disease hard to cure.
Zhang was admitted into the No. 1 Hospital attached to Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, the provincial capital, in November 1999.
He underwent a joint transplant operation on April 16 this year, receiving a donated heart and lungs.
The surgery proved successful. Zhang's transplanted heart and lungs are reportedly in good order.
