Acupuncture Proves 94% Effective Rate in Treating Depression

A new study confirms these results and patients’ three month follow up appointments continue to be significantly intact. Three months later, the success rate remained remarkably at 89%, demonstrating that acupuncture and moxibustion provides both short term and long term benefits for depressive patients. Depression affects over 15 million adults in the US, roughly 6.7% of our population. This research brings hope to this severe, yet common illness.

Acupuncture Proves 94% Effective Rate in Treating Depression Dana Point, CA, February 28, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Patients were measured using the Hamilton Depression Scale at the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture plus moxibustion (a therapy used to warm the needles while the patient undergoes treatment) was used 2 times per week for 12 weeks with 163 patients with mild to moderate depression. Acupuncture is used for both acute, situational depression, as well as chronic chemical imbalances.

Dr. Kathleen Albertson, a licensed acupuncturist, and herbalist remarks, “This study encourages those patients with depression to seek acupuncture therapy in conjunction with their western protocols. It not only opens the door for the patient to improve his/her quality of life, but may lead the way to a decrease in the patients’ need or use of Western pharmaceutical drugs which have severe side effects.”

“It is not our place, nor is it legal, for an acupuncturist to recommend that a patient change any use or dosage of medications prescribed by a Western MD; but often the patient and their doctor reach solutions that may benefit that patient.”

She further remarks, “Psychologists and therapists have a long history of acknowledgement and support for recommending acupuncture to their patients for not only depression, but stress, postpartum, and anxiety, as well.”

Acupuncture releases endorphins and calms the nervous system, allowing the body and mind to reach homeostasis (balance). It is proven to reduce pain and support our physical and emotional systems, and has been utilized for over 5000 years. “It is never too late to research new options that can help you,” she reports.

Dr. Albertson also holds a Master’s degree in Counseling, and a PhD in Holistic Nutrition. She has been in practice for 23 years and currently practices in Dana Point, CA.
