Is acupuncture a good treatment for high blood pressure?

\

Acupuncture has been used to treat a wide variety of ailments for thousands of years. Though the ancient practice has evolved a bit with modern medicine, many of the principles are the same. Now, researchers are exploring ways that electroacupuncture can help relieve hypertension.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a common issue for older adults. When left untreated, it can lead to strokes, heart disease or cardiac arrest. To help combat this risk, doctors with the University of California, Irvine studied the effects of electroacupuncture on hypertension.

They found that the process can release brain chemicals that can bring blood pressure down. Regular check ups with a physician are important for finding and diagnosing heart problems for seniors. Acupuncture could be one of many therapies used to help improve cardiovascular health.
