The result shows that Tongmailing is an effective anti-hypertension traditional Chinese herb. Tongmailing is a key scientific and technological project of Shanxi Province No. 92KY-G22) in the period of the eighth 5-Year plan. It was designed based on the research result on hypertension by TCM theory combined with modem medicine. The herb consists of Radix astragal seu Hedysari, Rhizoma Gastrodiael, Cortex Eucormiae, Chalcanthitum, raw Radix Rehmanniae. Herbaceous Peony Flos Chrysanthemi, Radix Polygalae, Os Draconis, Concha Ostreae, Spica Prunellae. While Tongmailing can reduce blood pressure slowly and enduringly, it does not effect the metabolism of blood-fat, blood sugar and electrolytes. Study on pharmacology and pharmacodynamics shows that it can also increase remarkably cardiac output and increase blood flow of kidney and brain. D50 was not measured by both acute and chronic toxicity tests. The characteristics of blood flow dynamics are beneficial to the treatment of hypertension and to improving life quality of the patients. Therefore, Tongmailing is an idea anti-hypertension traditional Chinese preparation.
