Clinical Observation on Treatment of 44 Cases of Diabetes Mellitus by Cangzhu Jiangtang Drink
 
　　
Objective: To observe the effect of Cangzhu Jiangtang Drink (CJD) in treating diabetes mellitus.
　　
Methods: 44 patients of diabetes mellitus type II treated with CJD and 36 patients in the control group were observed. All the 80 cases were conformed with the diagnostic standard of WHO formulated in l985. Among the 44 cases enrolled in the treatment group, 8 cases were complicated with hypertension I - II Stage, l5 coronary heat disease, 2 pulmonary infection and 3 nephropathy. 8 cases with fasting blood sugar ranged in 7.2-8.3 mmol/L (mild degree), 30 in 8.4-l4 mmol/L (middle degree) and 6 cases >l4mmol/L (severe degree). Distribution of complications in the control group was similar to that in the treated group, and the hyperglycemia degree was 9 of mild, l9 of middle and 8 of severe. Statistical analysis showed the two groups were not significant different in sex, age, condition of disease and symptoms (P>0.05). The treatment group was treated with CJD, Which consists of Rhizoma Atractylodes l0g, Rhizoma Polygonatum Odoratum 20g, Radix Astragalus 30g, Rhizoma Dioscorea l5g, Radix Pueraria 20g, Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza l5g, Rhizoma Anemrrhena l5g, Radix Trichosanthes l0g. The control group was treared with hypoglycemic agent orally. The therapeutic course for both groups was 3 weeks.
　　
Result: Therapeutic effect was evaluated by adopting the "Standard for Efficacy Assessment in Treatment of Xiao ke (diabetes mellitus)" formulated by National Ministry of Health. The total effective rate in the treatment group was 9l% and in the control group 50%, comparison of the two groups showed significant difference (P<0.0l).

Conclusion: The Chinese herbal preparation CJD has good effect in treating diabetes mellitus type II.
