Study on Treatment of Gastritis infected by HP with "Yi Wei Wan"

Objective: Clinical therapeutic effect of Yi Wei Wan (pills nourishing the stomach) on infected gastritis caused by HP was observed. Aimed at building some foundation for further developing more potent, low toxic, less side effect Chinese drug in killing HP.

Methods: Stomachoscopy was performed in all cases. Diagnosis was set up through pathological report and quick urease test according to "Standard of Classification and Diagnosis of Chronic Gastritis by Fibergastroscopy stomashoscopy. Patients with hypo-function of spleen and stomach syndrome, stomach Yin deficiency associated with stomach damp heat syndrome coinciding with “Instruction Principles for clinical study of Chinese dabs and new drugs were used as observation subjects. Patients were distributed to two groups randomly according to the order of admission. 204 cases in the treated group are treated by Yi Wei Wan (composed of Herba taraxaci, Rhizoma bletillae, and Radix adenophorae). While 135 cases in the control group were treated with Lizhu Dele capsule (colloidal bismuth subcitrate) and amoxillin. The treatment continued for 4 weeks in both groups. Fibergastroscopy was carried 1 day before treatment and 2 days after ceasing of treatment. The examination was done before breakfast and the instrument of Olympus GIF30 type was used. Two pieces of mucous tissue located 3cm away from pyloric antrus were taken. One for quick uncase test. Clinical therapeutic effect was observed and animal experiments were done.

Results: Clinical observation shows that Yi Wei Wan is superior to control group in relief of clinical symptoms and eliminating HP (P0.0l cornus officinalis). As compared with the control group, both high and low dosage of Yi Wei Wan and aspirin (as positive control) are effective in deduce either the number of twist induced by acetic acid intra-Peritoneal injection or prolonging the latent period of twist response. As compared with model control, both large doses of Yi Wei Wan and Lizhu Dele (colloidal bismuth subcitrate) plus aspirin group is effective in decreasing the HP positive rate, reducing the ulcer area and ulcer index (P<0.05). Price of Yi Wei Wan is cheaper than western drugs.

Conclusion: Since Yi Wei Wan has moderate therapeutic effect on HP infected gastritis; it is worthy to be studied further.
