Clinical Observation on "Zishentongmai" Capsule for Hypertension of Kidney Deficiency in Middle-aged and Aged Patients

　　
Objective: To observe the clinical effect and safety of Zishentongmai (nourishing the kidney and activating vessel) capsule in the treatment of hypertension of the Kidney deficiency in middle-aged and aged patients.

Methods: Diagnosis was made according to the criteria proposed by WHO (systolic pressure >=2l.3 Kpa, diastolic pressure >= l2.7 Kpa) and the kidney deficiency syndrome differentiation based on the definition proposed by the Symposium of China Integrated TCM and Western Medicine on Deficiency Syndrome and Senile Diseases. They are: (l) Lumbago pain; (2) Weaker knee and tibia or heel pain; (3) Tinnitus or deafness; (4) Alopecia or luxated teeth; (5) Urine incontinence or residual; (6) Weaker sex function; If any 3 of the syndromes mentioned above exist, a diagnosis could be made. The research target was the patients who were in accordance with the criteria for hypertension diagnosis and kidney deficiency and their age > 50 years. They divided into three groups according to the proportion 2: l: l at random: group of Zishentongmai Capsule, group of compound Apocynaceae and group of nifedipine The 3 groups of patient were no remarkable difference in ratio of sex, age, conditions and duration and Stag of illness, so they were relatively comparable.

Result: 83 cases in group of Zishentongmai Capsule, administering 4 capsules (consists of Cortex Eucommiae, Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, Spica Prunella, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Herba Cisthchis etc.) each time, 3 times daily; 4l cases in group of compound Apocynaceae, administering 2 tablets each time, 3 times daily; and 4l cases in group of nifedipine administering l0mg each time, 3 times daily, 2 months makes a course. In the group of Zishentongmai Capsule, the rate of reaching Standard within l month was 8l% and 90% Within 2 months. The curative effect was better than that of compound Apocynaceae group and similar to that of nifedipine group. The obviously effective rate of TCM syndrome differentiation was 6l% and the total effective rate was 92%, which were better than that of both compound Apocynaceae and nifedipine. The preparation is effective for promoting blood rheological Property improving heart function, reducing part of myocardial hypertrophy reducing cerebral vascular resistance and increasing CBF. No clinical adverse reaction observed.

Conclusion: Zishentongmai Capsule is effective and safe for the treatment of hypertension in middle-aged and aged patients.
