Prospects for Prevention and Treatment of Senile Hypertension by TCM

  
Objective: To explore the method and prospects for prevention and treatment of senile hypertension by TCM.

Methods:
(l) Hypertension due to deficiency: The kidney deficiency and the liver flourishing: Zhibai Dihuang Wan, Buyin Jian (decoction to reinforce yin), Huqian Wan, Ziyin Yangyang Tang (decoction of nourishing Yin and replenishing Yang). Excess in the upper and deficiency in the lower: Dihuang Yinzi (decoction of radix rehmanniae), Guifu Bawei Wan (bolus of ramulus cinnamomi, radix aconiti praeparata and other 6 materia medica), Rong Zhu Dan (Pill of cornu cerri pantotrichum, and pear );

(2) The liver-Yin deficiency: Da Ding Feng Zhu Tang, Zhen Zhu Mu Wan, Yi Guan Jian, San Jia Fu Mai Tang, Jia Wei Liyin Jian. Deficiency of nutrients and blood and upward invasion of wind of deficiency type: Dihuang digupi Decoction Danggui Chuanxiong Decoction, Ziyin Heyang Decoction, Siwu Decoction. Derangement of the constructive energy and defensive energy: Guizhi Jiagui Decoction, Huangqi Wuwu decoction;

(3) Hypertension due to excess: upward invasion of Phlegm and wind: Jiaowei Baifuzi Pill, Chensha Yuanzhi Pill, Ditan Decoction. Upward invasion of the liver-wind: Gouteng Powder, Ling Yang Jiao Powder, Qinggan Decoction;

(4) Hypertension due to cold factor: deficiency of reservoir of marrow: Guiluerxian Colloid, Cizhu pill, Hutao Gouji Decoction, Zhuangshui Zizao Decoction, Liuwei Dihuang Bolus. Cold vital energy charging upper organs: Heixi Pill, Guizhi Bawei Bolus;

(5) Hypertension due to heat: Upward invasion of wind and fire of the liver and gallbladder: Huangqin Decoction, Longdan Xiegan Decoction, Danggui Longhui Bolus. Stagnation of heat in stomach and intestin: Sanshi Decoction, Chengqi Xianxiong Decoction. Wind caused by dryness-heat: Tiaowei Chengqi Decoction, Gegen Qinlian Decoction, Fangfeng Tongsheng Bolus;

(6) Hypertension due to obstacle of vital and blood;

(7) Deficiency of Qi with blood Stagnation: Buyanghuanwu Decoction, Guanxin I (for coronary disease, self prescription), Jiangya I (reduce blood pressure, self prescription);

(8) Stagnation of both Qi and blood: Tongjingzhubu Decoction, Chaihu Shugan Decoction.

This author thinks that blood Pressure could be kept at a normal and stable level, sudden death caused by myocardial infarction and stroke could be prevented effectively if prevention and treatment could be conducted according to the prescriptions. It shows the bright prospects of TCM in preventing and treating sudden death caused by myocardial infarction and Stroke. 

Conclusion: TCM has bright prospects for prevention and treatment of aged hypertension.
