Clinical Observation on Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis by Bitongning No. I

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of Bitongning No. l (recipe for treating pain of Block Syndrome).

Methods: Aiming directly on the characteristics of TCM Syndrome distribution of the Rheumatoid arthritis, that was, mostly the Cold-Damp Blocking, Blood stasis Blocking, Liver-Kidney Yin-Deficiency and Qi-Blood Deficiency Syndromes, about accounting to 78%, Bitongning No, I was prepared, which is a pure Chinese herbal preparation possessing effects of dispersing Cold-Damp, smoothing tendons and motivating Collaterals, supplementing Qi-Blood, Strengthening tendons and bones. 280 Cases of rheumatoid Arthritis were divided random1y into two groups for clinical observation.

Result: Among the l56 cases in the treatment group, 40 cases (25.6%) were of short-term controlled, 84 (53.8%) of markedly effective, 24 (15.4%) of effective, 8 (5.2%) of ineffective, and the total effective rate was 94.8%. While among the l24 cases in the treatment group, l2 cases (9.7%) were of short-term controlled, l6 (l2.9%) markedly effective, 60 (48.4%) effective, 36 (29.0%) ineffective, and the total effective rate was 7l%. The comparison between the two was showed significant difference (P<0.0l).

Conclusion: Bitongning No. I is an effective drug in treating rheumatoid arthritis.
