Experience of Treatment of Menopause Syndrome

  
Objective: To study the regularities of treatment of menopause syndrome with traditional Chinese medicine.

Methods: The principle of treatment is tonifying the kidney and the liver, regulating Chong and Ren Meridians to lower the reverse flow of Qi, combined the removing heat and blood stasis, reinforcing the stomach and the spleen. Prescription: "Tiaochong Gengnian Tang" (Decoction for Regulating Chong Meridian and Menopausal Syndrome): Fructus Lycii 46g, Polygoni Multiflori 46g, Radix Rehmanniae 36g, Radix Paeoniae Alba 36g, Concha Ostreae 36g, Concha Haliotidis 36g, Radix Achyranthes bidentata 36g, Ligusticum wallichii l6g, Radix Angelica Sinensis l6g, Salvia miltiorrhiza 26g, Cortex Phellodendri 26g, Epimedium grandiflorum 26g, Glycyrrhiza uralensisl6g, and Fructus Crataegi 36g. These medicinal herbs were decocted in water and taken one dose every l-2 day. For patients with irritability and having feverish sensation in the chest, Gardenia jasminoides was added; for patients with hysteria, Triticum aestivum, Fructus Ziziphi Jujubae and Lilium brownii were added; for patients with excessive menses, Radix Notoginseng was added instead of Salvia miltiorrhiza; for patients with deficiency of qi of the heart and the spleen, Radix Ginseng, Atractylodes macrocepha1a, Astragali seu Hedysari and Euphoria longan were supplemented; for patients with severe phlegm-dampness and greasy tongue fur, minus drugs with removing heat function, Pinellia ternata, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Poria, Acorus gramineus Sol were added instead of drugs for clearing away heat from the blood.

Result: 32 cases were treated with the aforementioned recipe. After treatment for less than l2-40 doses, the cured was 26 cases, the apparently effective 6 cases.

Conclusion: Satisfactory therapeutic effects were achieved by taking the therapy based on differentiation of syndrome for the treatment of menopause syndrome.
