The Clinical Observation on Senile Chronic Bronchitis Treated with "Guben Kechuan"

　　
Objective: To evaluate the curative effect of Guben Kechuan Capsule (Constitution- consolidating for Cough-asthma Capsule) on senile chronic bronchitis.

Methods: The subjects were selected according to the standard revised by Chinese clinical commission of chronic bronchitis. They met the outlines as following:

(1)The age was over 60 years;
 (2)No acute attack occurred in one month;
 (3)No heart failure, tumor or other life-threatening disease were found;
 (4)Giving up smoking for at least one year.

Total 65 cases were selected, and divided random1y, sing1e-blindly into treatment group (34 cases) and control group (3lcases). There was no obvious difference of the common resource, such as the age, sex, course, smoking history complication and the volume of expiration in one second, between the two groups.

The treatment group took Guben Kechuan Capsule 5 capsules per time, twice a day. The capsule was mainly composed of Radix Ginseng, Gecko, Cordyceps and Bulbus Fritilariae. The control group took Placebo.

The course of treatment was 3 months. During the test, the drugs that might influence the result were avoided. Results: The main symptoms, such as cough with phlegm and asthma, and pulmonary Function (FEVl, MMEF) of treatment group were improved markedly. Whi1e those of control group were with no obvious improvement.

Conclusion: Guben Kechuan Capsule has the effect of replenishing qi, strengthening the spleen, lung and kidney and relieving cough and asthma by consolidating the constitution. The capsule can improve the symptoms and pulmonary function of the patients with senile chronic bronchitis.
