Clinical Study on Treatment of 80 Cases with Diabetic Nephropathy by Tangshenkang and Glurenorm

　　
Objective: To explore the effect of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine (TCM and WM) in treating diabetic nephropathy.
　　
Methods: According to the Mogensen's Standard for diagnosis and staging of diabetic nephropathy l40 patients were enrolled and divided randomly into treatment group and control group. The control group was treated with Glurenorm only. Based on Glurenorm to control the blood sugar level, in the treatment group, Tangshenkang (TSK) was used in addition, Which mainly consists of Radix Astragalus, Radix Salvia Miltiorrhizae, Radix Sculellaria, Radix et Rhizoma Rheum, etc., was given one dose per day for boiled with water and in took orally in twice. The two groups were similar in age, sex, stage of disease and average level of blood sugar, and so were comparable. The therapeutic course for both groups was 8 weeks.
　　
Result: The therapeutic effect was evaluated depending on the self setting standard referring to blood sugar, urinary protein and blood creatinine (Results showed that the markedly effective rate in the treated group was 57.7% and the total effective rate 94.5%, While in the control group, they were 20% and 53.3% respectively. Clinical observation displayed that TSK had effect on decreasing urinary protein, lowering blood creatinine, and improving renal function. Modem pharmacological study revealed that the main ingredients of TSK were able to inhibit the non-enzymatic glycosylation and polyatomic alcohol path, decrease the high filtration in glomeruli and improve the renal function.
　　
Conclusion: TCM and WM therapy has the effect of decrease urinary protein and improve renal function in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy.
