55 Cases of Diabetic Neuropathy Treated with Puerarine Injection

Objective: TO observe the clinical effect of Puerarine Injection (PI) in treating diabetic neuropathy.

Methods: Patients in the treatment group were treated with oral hypoglycemic agent or insulin according to the fasting blood sugar level and other condition as well as PI 400mg in 250ml of 0.9% normal saline by intravenous dripping once daily for 14-2l days. The control group took the same treatment except PI injection.

Result: In the 55 cases of the treatment group, l6 cases were markedly effective, 26 effective, l3 ineffective, the total effective rate being 76.4%, While in the l0 cases of the control group, 4 markedly effective, 4 effective, 6 ineffective, the total effective the 40%. Comparison of the total effective rates of the two groups showed significant difference (P<0.05).

Conclusion: The mechanism of PI in diabetic neuropathy might be to improve microcirculation, activate metabolic process, so as to promote regeneration and repairing of the residual or inhibited function of nerve fibers.
