Treatment of Chronic Prostatitis with TCM and Western Medicine


 

Objective: To probe into therapeutic effects of combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine a western medicine for chronic prostatitis.
  
Methods: A hundred and eighty cases of chronic prostatitis who were diagnosed with a national criteria of diagnosis, were divided at random into western medicine group, traditional Chinese medicine group and group of combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, 60 case in each group. In the western medicine group, sensitive antibiotics were selected according to bacterial culture of succus prostaticus. Before the results of bacterial culture were obtained, quinolones was used for treatment of mild patients and cephaloglycin combined with quinolones for severe patients. In the traditional Chinese medicine group, treatment based on differentiation of symptoms and signs was applied. Damp-heat type should be treated by clearing away damp-heat, using Herba Dianthi, Herba Polygoni Avicularis, Poria, Fructus Gardeniae, Herba Plantaginis, Radix Rehmanniae and Radix Rehmannia Praeparata: For Qi-deficiency and fire-decline type, reinforcing fire of gate of life and clearing away damp-heat should be adopted, using Colla Cornus Cervi, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Rhizome Dioscoreae, Poria Rhizoma Alismatis and Herba Plantaginis: Regulating Qi and activating blood circulation combined with removing dampness-heat should be used for the type of stagnation of Qi and stasis of blood, using Semen Persicae, Flos Carthami, Radix Paeniae Rubra, Fructus Foeniculi, Commiphora Myrrha, Rhizoma Corydalis, Folium Pyrrosiae and Glycyrrhizae: In the group of combined treatment of Traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, the same western medicines as those in the western medicine group and the same drugs as those in the Chinese drug group based on differentiation of syndromes were administrated. The treatments were given one month. The second therapeutic course or the third course was applied for the patients who had not cured.
  
Result: The total effective rates after the first therapeutic course in traditional Chinese medicine group, the western medicine group and the group of combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine were 70%, 68.4% and 85% respectively, and the total effective rate after the second course was 75%, 75% and 90% respective1y, and the total effective rates after the third course was 80%, 80% and 93.3% respectively. It is suggested that the effective rates is positive proportion to therapeutic courses, and the therapeutic effect in the group of combined treatment is superior to that of traditional Chinese medicine group or western medicine group (P0'05).

Conclusion: Therapeutic effect of the combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is superior to that of western medicine or simple Chinese drug alone.
