Effect of Xiongbi Dicoction Serum Lipid Peroxide in Coronary Heart Disease

Clinical Effect of Xiongbi Dicoction Serum Lipid Peroxide in Coronary Heart Disease

Objective: To explore the anti-angina effect of Xiongbi Decoction (XBD) and its influence on free radicle metabolism.

Methods: The 80 patients selected were diagnosed according to the WHO diagnostic standard of coronary heart disease and angina pectoris, including 70 cases of stable angina labor pattern, 8 cases unstable angina labor pattern and 2 cases of spontaneous peking angina. They were randomly divided into two groups. The 40 cases in the treated group were given XBD (containing Radix Codonopsis Pilosula, Radix Astragalus, Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza, Lignum Dalbergia Odorifera, etc.) one dose daily in twice. The 40 cases in the control group were given.

Nifedipine l0mg three times per day. The course of treatment for both groups was 2 months. The general materials of the two groups, including age, sex, course of disease, type of angina and complications were similar showing no significant difference (P<0.05), and the two groups were comparable.

Result: The effect of treatment were assayed according to the "Standard for Evaluation of Therapeutic effect in treating Coronary Heart Disease and angina" and the "Standard for Therapeutic Effectiveness on ECG Evaluation" formulated by the Chinese Association of the Integration of Traditional Chinese medicine and Western Medicine l979. The results showed that the therapeutic effect of XBD in treating coronary heart disease and angina pectoris was prominent, the markedly effective rate being 75.l2%, and total effective rate 92.5%. In the control group, the markedly effective the rate was 45% and the total effective rate 65%. Comparison between the two groups showed significant difference (P<0.0l). The total effective rate on ECG in the treated group was 67.50%, While that in the control group was 42.50%, the comparison between the two groups also showed significant difference (P<0.05). XBD displayed a better effect than that of the control group, and showed good antioxidation action. Before treatment, the SOD and LPO level in the two groups were not different significantly, but after treatment, LPO in the treated group was lower than and SOD higher than those in the control group respectively (P<0.05 and P<0.0l respectively), In addition, the hemorheologic parameters and blood lipid level in the treated group were improved significantly after treatment (P<0.05).

Conclusion: XBD is markedly effective in treating coronary heart disease and angina pectoris and has actions on anti-lipid peroxidation, improving hemorheology and regulating blood lipid.
