Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture therapy for treatment of pain.

Methods : (1) For Shaoyang headache (Pain occurred in the temples on bilateral sides of the head), Fengchi (GB 20), Taiyang (EX-HN 5) and Neiguan (PC 6) were needled and stimulated with uniform reinforcing- reducing method. After achieving needling sensations, the needles were retained for 30min; (2) For back pain due to blockage of the Taiyang Meridian by wind-cold pathogens, Dazhui (GB 14), Feishu (BL 13), Xinshu (BL 15) and Geshu (BL 17) were needled and stimulated by using uniform reinforcing-reducing method, then, the needles were retained for 30 min. After removing the acupuncture needles, performed cupping over the acupoint areas and attained the cups for about 5 min. After pricking blood at Feishu (BL 13) and Xinshu (BL 15), performed cupping over these two points for 15 min to let about sml of blood out; (3) For lumbago and leg pain due to deficiency of kidney-Yang and blockage of meridians because of cold-dampness, Shenshu (BL 23), Mingmen (DU 4), Guanyuanshu (BL 26), Chengfu (BL 36), Yinmen (BL 37), Weizhong (BL 40) and Chengshan (BL 57) were needled. The former three acupoints were stimulated with reinforcing method, and the rest acupoints stimulated with uniform reinforcing-reducing method. During retaining of the needles inserted in Shenshu (BL 23), Mingmen (DU 4) and Guanyuanshu (BL 26), three ignited moxas segmellts were respectively attached to the needle handles for 30min. After removing the needles, scopolamine injection was injected into Kunlun (BL 60) on the first day, Shenshu gBL 23) on the second day and Guanyuanshu (BL 26) on the their day, about 0.5ml every time for each of them; (4) For tennis elbow induced by blockage of the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming by cold-dampness pathogens, Zhouliao (LI 12), Quchi (LI I l), Shousanli GI 10) and Hegu (LI 4) were punctured, and the needles were manipulated with uniform reinforcing-reducing method. Quchi (LI 11) was also applied moxibustion for 30min.

Results: The aforementioned 4 methods were used separately for treatment of each one case. They were all cured at last.
