Objective: Introduce a method of combination of cupping and acupuncture.

Methods: The patient keeps a prone position. Apply the flash cupping method on the tenderness caused by sprain with a big glass cup, then insert three No.28 or No.30, 6 to 8 cun long needles horizontally into the cup along the muscular fiber through the cup mouth, and retain the needle for 20 minutes. The treatmentt is given once every other day and 6 times constitutes one course.

Reslts: A total of 32 cases with duration of disease that arranged from two to five days were treated. Prolapse of lumber intervertebral disc, bone fracture and tumor were not included in all the cases. The effect was satisfactory.

Conclusion: The method combining cupping with acupuncture by horizontal technique can quickly relieve the spasm and swelling of the soft tissues, like muscles and fascias, invigorate the blood circulation of the local region, and rapidly reduce the aseptic inflammation so that imbalance of muscular fascia caused by local sprain are regulated and resumed.
