Selection of Points Based on Differentiation of Syndromes in Treatment of


 

Objective: To observe the clinical results of selection of points based on differentiation of syndromes in acupuncture treatment of hyperplasia of prostate.

Methods: In treatment group, scalp and body acupuncture were used combination. On the scalp, Foot-motor sensory Area (MSS), Genital Area (MS4,on both sides) was punctured horizontally and cross wise. The needles were manipulated by quick twirling technique for 3-5 minutes till there was arrival of qi in the body. Guanyuan (CV 4), Zhongji (CV3) and Qihai (CV6) were punctured and the needling sensation was controlled to spread to the perineum. According to the differentiation of syndromes, secondary points such as Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Dazhui (GV14), Baihui (GV 20), Chengjiang (CV24), Shenshu (BL23), Pangguangshu (BL28), Ciliao (BL32), Taichong GR3), Lieque (LU7), etc could be selected. The points were all punctured and stimulated with reinforcing method. The needles were manipulated twice again during the retention. Treatment was given once daily. 10 treatments were taken as one course. The next course of treatment started after 2 days' interval. In control group, patients took “Qianliekang" (Pills for relieving hyperplasia of prostate), 4 pills each time, 3 times a day, and "An Niao Tong" pills, 2 pills each time, 3 times a day. After 5 treatment courses, the therapeutic result was analyzed. Criteria for therapeutic effect: Markedly effective: Symptoms of dysuria, acraturesis, hesitant urination, dribbling urination, frequent urination at night and furcated urine stream were obviously relieved or turned to normal conditions. Retained amount of urine was obviously reduced or almost excreted basically. Effective: Urination disturbance was alleviated; frequency of urination at night was obviously reduced. The amount of retained urine was reduced. Ineffective: Urination disturbance was slightly relieved, but the frequency of urination at night and the amount of retained urine remained no changes.

Results: After 5 treatment courses, of the 36 cases in acupuncture group, 20 cases responded with remarkable effect, 13 cases were effective, 3 cases failed in treatment. Of the 32 cases in the control group, 8 cases were treated with remarkable effect, 15 cases were effective, 9 cases failed in treatment. According to the statistic analysis on the therapeutic effects of the two groups there was a significant difference.
