Clinical Effect of Acupuncture in the Treatment of Gastrokinetic Disturbance

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture in the treatment of gastrokinetic disturbance in comparison with that of western medicine.

Methods: In the acupuncture group, Zhongwan (CV12), Weishu (BL21), Zusanli (ST36), Neiguan (PC6) were selected. Even tonification & reduction method was used and the needles were retained for 20-30 minutes. Moxibustion was added in case of cold syndrome. The treatment was given once daily. 10 days made 1 treatment course. If no effect happened, another course began on the third day after the first course. The patients of the control group were given 10mg of Tabella Domperidoni 30 minutes before meal, 3 times everyday. The treatment course is the same as that of the acupuncture group.

Results: Of the 103 patients accepting acupuncture, 66 got markedly effective (the symptoms disappear gastrokinesogram turns normal), 32 improved (the integral mark of symptoms is decreased by more than 50%, solitude or frequency of gastrokinesogram is improved) and 5 turned out ineffective (no change happens in the integral mark of symptoms, no improvement happens in the gastrokinesogram). The total effective rate is 95. 15%. Of the 41 patients accepting western medicine, 21 got markedly effective, 16 effective, 4 ineffective. The total effective rate is 90.24%. The therapeutic effect of acupuncture is superior to that of the control group, but no evident difference was found (p<0.05). Nevertheless, in terms of improving the situation of gastrokinetic disturbance as well as such symptoms as anorexia, belching, acupuncture is superior to Tabella Domperidoni.

Concludsion: Acupuncture. exerts dual regulative influence on gastrokinetic disturbance, causing both tachygastria and bradygastria to restore to normal rhythm, then relieving such symptoms as epigastric fullness and distension, belching and nausea, anorexia and discomfort after meal while incurring no side effect. It is seen that acupuncture is worth promulgating.
