250 Cases of Hemiplegia Treated by Electroacupuncture and Massage
Objective: to observe the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture (EA) and massage on hemiplegia.
Methods: In acupuncture treatment, both head-acupuncture and body acupuncture was used. Point selection: Baihui (GV20), Sishencong (EX-NHl) plus the posterior oblique temporal line and anterior temporal line on the affected area; blood letting at Shuigou (GV26), Zhongchong (PC9) and Shixuan (EX-UE11) for disturbance of consciousness, Lianquan (CV23), Renying (ST9), Shuitu (ST10), Futu (ST32) and Tianding (LI17) for disturbance of speaking and swallowing; Jinjin (EX-HN12) and Yuye (EX-hn-13) for wry tongue; Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV4), Zhongji (CV3), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Shenshu (BL23) and Pangguangshu (BL28) for urinary and fecal incontinence. And Jian San Zhen (3 needles on the shoulder), Tianzong (SI11), Quchi (LI11), Shousanli (LI10), Waiguan (TE5) penetrating Neiguan (PC6), Houxi (SI3) and Hegu (LI4) on the affected side of the upper limbs, and Yaoyan (EX-B7), Huantiao (GB30), Yinmen (BL37), Shangweizhong (upper Weizhong), Chengshan (BL57), Fengshi (GB31), Yanglingquan (GB34), Zusanli (ST36), Tiaokou (ST38), Sanyinjiao (SP6), and Xingjian (LR2) on the affected side of the lower limb were chosen. 10 points were used each time. After needling insertions twisting and twirling with reinforcing and reducing maneuvers were applied and the needle was remained following needling sensation being obtained. An EA apparatus of G-6805 type was connected, and consecutive waves were delivered to the points for 30 minutes, once daily. 10 treatments made a course. After an interval of 2 -3 days the 2nd course of treatments began. After acupuncture treatment various massage maneuvers were gently applied, and passive movement was made from the distal to the proximal joints with gradually increased intensities. The patients were asked to make alive movement as early as possible according to their muscular recovery situation, and make functional training Under the guidance of doctors. Massage was applied for 30 minutes each time, once daily. Ten consecutive treatments made a course.
Results: 250 cases of hemiplegia with a history of 1 day to 9 months were treated. After 3 courses of treatments, 150 cases were cured, accounting for 60%, 75 cases obviously improved (30%), 15 cases improved (6%), and 10 cases unimproved (4%) with a total effective rate of 96%.
