Acupuncture at Abdominal Points for Treating Apoplexy-induced Sequelae
Objective: To observe clinical therapeutic effects of acupuncture at abdominal points on apoplexy-induced sequelae.
Methods: The following abdominal points were selected: Zhongwan (CV12), Xiawan (CV10), Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV4); Huaroumen (ST24), upper Fengshidian (5 fen superior and exerior to Huaroumen), Wailing (ST26) and Lower Fengshidian (5 fen interior and exterior to Wailing) on the affected side; Shangqu (KI17), Dashing (SP15) and Qixue (KI13) on the intact side. Tongli (HT5) and Lianquan (CV23) were added for linguistic disturbance, and Shuigou (GV26), Taiyuan (LU9) and Taixi (KI3) for aphasia, A 30-32 gange filiform needle was inserted for promotion of needling sensation, followed by 30 minutes of needling remaining, and then it was withdrawn. During the same period of time, moxibustion was made consecutively above all the points selected from the upper ones downward, and it could also be made on Shenque (CV5) once every other day and 10 treatments made a course. For aged and weak patients the manipulations were given twice a week. For those with numbness in the lambs, point injection and oral administration of herbal medicine were given.
Results: In a total of 53 cases treated, 9 cases were basically cured, 36 cases markedly improved, 5 cases improved and 3 cases unimproved with the total effective rate of 94.34%.
