Chuanping" Point Used for Treatment of Bronchial Asthma


 

Objective: To observe the curative effect of acupuncture at Chuanping point on bronchial asthma.

Methods: The patients of bronchial asthma were divided into two groups: the acupuncture group (n=15) treated with acupuncture at Chuanping point located at 0.5 cun lateral to Shousanli (LI10), and the control group (n=7) administered with intravenously dripping aminophylline. In the acupuncture group, a filiform needle of 2.5 to 3.0 cun in length was perpendicularly inserted into Pingchuan point. It was manipulated once every 10 minutes with an even reinforcing maneuver. The needle was remained for 1 hour, and 3 treatments made a course. In the control group, aminophylline was given by dripping at the dose of 4.5mg/Kg (10mg/m1). The dripping was terminated within 1 hour, and 3 treatments made a course.

Results: In the acupuncture group, 8 cases were obviously improved after 1 treatment, 6 cases improved after 2 treatments, and 1 case ineffective after 3 treatments. In the control group, 4 cases were obviously improved after 1 treatment, 2 cases improved after 2 treatments, and 1 case ineffective after 3 treatments. The curative effect in the former was better than that in the latter.

Conclusion: Chuanping point is an effective one for alleviating the symptoms at the acute stage of bronchial asthma. Needling the point is beneficial for further reinforcing the Spleen and nourishing the Kidney to strengthen the body resistance.
