Objective: Observation of the therapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment for 56 cases of ejaculation failure, which has been treated since 1995.

Methods: Points selected for the treatment were divided into 2 groups: group (1) Qugu (CV 2), Sansinjiao (SP 6); Group (2) Ciliao (BL 32), Taixi (KI 3). Prior to the treatment, the points to be treated were disinfected conventionally with 75% alcohol, then inserted respectively with a 2-2.5 cun long, gauge No. 30 disposal needle. After needling sensation was obtained, reducing or reinforcing manipulation was applied in accordance with the pathological condition of the patient, i.e. deficiency or excess, cold or heat. When Qugu (CV 2) was needled the needling sensation was guided to the root of the penis; while needling Ciliao (BL 32) the needling sensation was induced to radiate to the perineum region. In needling Sanyinjiao (SP 6) contrative sensation in the lower limb should be experience. The treatment was conducted once per day with one group of points needled, the group of points was treated alternately, 10 sessions constituted one treatment course, 3 courses were applied totally.

Results: Among the 56 cases treated the condition of 34 cases became normal within one course of treatment, armounting to 60.7%; 10 cases became normal in 3 courses after treatment, covering 17.8%; 7 cases were improved (12.5%); 5 cases non-effective (9.0%); The total effective rate was 91.0%.

Conclusion: It is believed that in the treatment the needling sensation reaching to the affected region is of great significance, particularly for Qugu (CV 2). Upon the arrival of needling sensation at the root of penis the needle may be removed. Of the 56 cases treated, 34 cured cases were experienced obvious transmission of needling sensation in the first course of treatthent. In order to have the needle sensation radiating to the affected region or to the required area, proper force and depth of needling should be made. The needle used for obese patient should be 2.5-3 cun long. For those patients Who have weak response to the needling, the force of needle manipulation should be relatively strong. Patients suffering from liver qi stagnation usually has mental diStress, therefore, psychotherapy or suggestion therapy, whieh is importal for the success of the treatment, should be combined with acupuncture treatment.
