Objective: To observe the clinic effect of treating chronic colonitis using acupuncture plus warm moxibustion.

Methods: (l) Acupoints: l>Tianshu (ST25), Zhongwan (CV12), Guanyuan (CV4), Zusanli (ST36), Xiajuxu (ST39); 2>Dachangshu (BL25), Shangliao (BL31), Ciliao (BL32), Yinlingquan (SP9). The two groups of acupoints were needled alternatively. Shenshu (BL23) and Mingmen (GV4) were added when kidney-Yang was deficient. Shenshu (BL23) and Sanyinjiao (SP6) were added when spleen was deficient. Taichong (LR3) was added when hepatic Qi inter-invaded the stomach; (2) Manipulations: 1>Patients were asked to lie down. Tianshu (ST25), Zhongwan (CV12) and Guanyuan (CV4) were punctured rapidly with the filiform needle of 2 Cun (No.30) by a diastolic way. The needle was inserted vertically into the depth of l.2 Cun. Moxibustion with warming needle was given after getting the Qi. Zusanli (ST36) and Shangjuxu (ST39) were needled upward at an angle of 70º using a filiform needle of No.28. It was better to get the Qi Which moved up by manipulating the needle. 2> Patients were asked to lie down. Dachangshu (BL25), Shangliao (BL31) and Ciliao (BL32) were punctured rapidly with the filiform needle of 2 Cun (No.28). Moxibustion with warming needle was given after getting the Qi the letting the feeling go to anus. Then Yinlingquan (GB34) was punctured into the depth of l.2 Cun with slightly up direction. It was better to get the Qi which moved up by manipulating the needle. One treatment was given per day and 10 times constituted a course of treatment.

Results: 32 cases were treated. After three continuous courses of treatment, 20 cases were totally cured (Clinic symptom and sign disappeared. Laboratory assay was normal. No repeated symptom appeared within six mouths); Seven cases were significantly effective (Clinic symptom and sign disappeared. But occasional pain and distension on abdomen appeared when eating cold food, drunk and bad emotion), five cases were effective.

Conclusion: The treatment acts on both ill places and acupoints along the meridian with diagnosis. Manipulation of acupuncture combines with moxibustion with warming needle. Warming, rising, draining and inducing methods were used simultaneously. Inhibiting liver but enhancing spleen was given at same time. The treatments can let lowered Yang expend, liver and spleen join together, transportation goes, lucid Yang-qi rises and turbid Yin goes down. It has therefore good curative effect.
