Treatment Of 32 Cases of Prolaps of Lumbar Intgrvetebral Disc with


 

Objective: To treat prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.

Methods: Comprehensive therapy: (l) Acupuncture: main points included Jiaji from L4 to L5, Zhibian (BL54), Huantiao (GB30) and yinmen (BL37). The supplemental points were Fengshi (GB31), Weizhong (GB40), Futu (ST32), zusanli (ST36), Yanglingquan (GB34), Xuanzhong (GB39) and Kunlun (BL60). The needles were retained for 30 to 45 minutes afer the arrival of qi by rotating, lifting and thrusting techniques; (2) Point injection: Mixed medical liquid with 6ml Dang Gui Zhu She Ye (Injection Liquid with Radix Angelicas Sinensis), 4ml Ye Mu Gua Zhu She Ye (Injection Liquid with caulis ect Folium stauntoniae) and 2ml Hong Hua Zhu She Ye (Injection Liquid with Flos Carthami) as prepared. In each treatment, two main points and two supplements points were selected. All the points were selected alternatively; (3) Massage: The patient was in a supine position, the operator pressed and kneaded by the small eminences with both palms overlapped along Governor Vessel and Bladder Meridians, to and fro five times, then pressed the main and supplementary points for two minutes with the thumb and index finger. The above-mentioned therapies were applied once a day and ten treatments made a course. The results of the five courses of treatment were analyzed statistically.

Results: Curing was determined by disappearance of symptoms, normal movement of the lumbar region and normal physical work; improvement was by basic relieving of lower back and leg pain, partially restoring of the physical work; and no effect was by no significant improvement of the synptoms. Of 32 cases, the duration of the sickness varied 7 bays to 6 years, 19 cases (59.4%) were cured, 11 cases (34.4%) improved and 2 cases (6.2%) had no effect. The effective rate was 93.8%.

Conclusion: This comprehensive therapy could promote the circulation of meridians and collaterals, activate blood circulation to stop pain, relieve local muscular spasm so as to promote the reposition of the prolapsed intervetebral disc.
