158 Cases of Sciatica Mainly Treated with Electroacupuncture


 

 

Objective: 158 cases of sciatica due to various reasons were treated by acupuncture in combination with electric stimulations and the radiation of TDP lamp and cupping.

Methods: (1)Selection of points: For Gall Bladder Meridian type, select Back-Shu points lateral to the tenderness of lumber region, Zhibian (BL54), Huantiao (GB30), Fengshi (GB31), Yanglingquan (GB34), Xuanzhong (GB39), Zusanli (ST36), Qiuxu (GB40). For Urinary Bladder Meridian type, select Back-Shu points lateral to the tenderness of lumber region, Baohuang (UB53), Zhibian (BL54), Huantiao (GB30), Mingmen (UB37), Weizhong (UB40), Chengshan (UB57), Kunlun (BL60). For the mixed type, select Back-Shu points lateral to the tenderness of lumber region, Zhibian (BL54), Huantiao (GB30), Chengjin (UB56), Yanglingquan (GB34), Feiyang (UB58), Jiexi (ST41). (2) Manipulation: After inserting the filiform needle into the point lift, thrust and rotate the needle to obtain needling sensations, then apply G6805 therapeutic apparatus with frequency in between of times/min and continuous waves. Meanwhile, use upright TDP lamp to radiate the lumber and buttock for 30 minutes. After removing the needle, perform cupping for 10 to 15 minutes. The treatment is given once a day or every other day, and 10 times constitutes one course with 5 to 7 days of interval.

Results: Among 158 cases, 35 (22.15%) are completely cured, 70 (44.31%) are effective, 37 (23.39%) are improved, and 16 (10.13%) are ineffective. The total efface rate is 89.87%. Among the effective cases, the duration of treatment is from 5 days to the shortest and 4 courses to the longest.
