First foreign run TCM clinic opens in Shanghai
A German who has lived in Shanghai for 10 years, recently opened a Chinese traditional medicine clinic, the first of its kind to be run by a laowai, reports the Xinmin Evening News.
Du Lisi, as she insists on being called, used to be in computer sales.
After arriving in Shanghai with her husband in 1995, Du became interested in Chinese traditional medicine and enrolled on a course at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
After years of slugging away at TCM classics such as Huang Di Nei Jing (The Medical Classic of the Yellow Emperor), Du graduated and successfully treated the stomach problem of her husband, her first patient.
Now employing a dozen experienced TCM practitioners, Du's clinic is becoming popular with the city's expat community.
