Eating Canned Tuna May Improve Your Love Life

WASHINGTON, Jan 31, 2002 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- It has long been known that canned tuna is full of protein and omega-3 fatty acids that many scientists report may help in the fight against heart disease, play a beneficial role in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, and can ease the pain of arthritis. But many researchers now believe that increased intake of omega-3 fats may also improve your sex life!

According to dietician Ellen Albertson, "You can awaken a sleepy libido with easy diet changes." Ms. Albertson is the co-author of a new book, Temptations: Igniting the Pleasure and Power of Aphrodisiacs (Simon & Schuster, 2002), which provides numerous practical dietary tips for a better love life, including eating more tuna fish sandwiches.

Prevention Magazine summarized how tuna can improve a person's love life in its February 2002 review of the book. Prevention explains, "If you use white albacore tuna (in your meals), you up your intake of omega-3 fats. More and more researchers now believe that omega-3s help ward off depression, surely one of the worst enemies of feeling sexy." The conclusion is that by eating more canned tuna you can uplift your mood, leading to higher sprits and in turn a better love life.

U.S. Tuna Foundation National Director Randi Thomas says, "We usually tout the long list of health benefits scientists believe are provided by omega-3s fatty acids. But canned tuna improving consumers' love lives? Now that's what we call a sexy idea!"

U.S. Tuna Foundation is the national organization representing the processors and marketers of canned tuna.
