Acupuncture has been given the seal of approval by two large-scale studies of its safety.

The surveys involved 32,000 consultations with doctors and physiotherapists who perform acupuncture, and 34,000 treatments by traditional practitioners.

Both show that acupuncture is relatively safe compared with conventional forms of treatment, the British Medical Journal reports.
