Caffeine increases risk of miscarriage

Aachen, Germany (dpa) - German nutritional experts have warned pregnant women to cut out caffeine after a Swedish study showed that just 100 milligrams of caffeine, the amount contained in three cups of coffee, increases the risk of miscarriage, especially in the early months.

The German Institute for Nutritional Medicine and Dietics advises pregnant women to replace coffee, energy drinks, black tea and colas with caffeine-free thirst-quenchers such as fruit and herb teas, mineral water and diluted fruit juices.
