Eating Protein May Protect Elderly Against Osteoporosis

Elderly people who do not consume enough protein may be at risk of osteoporosis, according to a US study. Researchers at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, claim that elderly people who consumed the least amount of protein lost significantly more bone than those who ate the most protein. This was regardless of age, weight, smoking habits, calcium intake and use of oestrogen. The study is published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
