22 Cases of Cerebellar Hemorrhage Treated Early by Electro-acupuncture
Objective: To observe clinical curative effects of electro-acupuncture (EA) applied early on cerebellar hemorrhage.
Methods: All the patients accepted the following conventional treatments for encephalorrhagia for about 2 weeks: dehydration for decreasing intracranial pressure, stabilization of blood pressure, nourishing neurons and improving the metabolism of neurons, according to the hemorrhage volume and increased intracranial pressure. EA treatment was to given within 24 hours after hospitalization in all the patients. Head-acupuncture points selected were the balance Area, Yuntin Area, and stomach Area. Body Acupuncture points chosen were Fengfu (GV16), Fengchi (GB20), Baihui (GV20), Yintang (EX-HN3), Shenting (GV24), Neiguan (PC6), Zusanli (ST36), Taixi (xi3), and Taichong (LI3).Even reinforcing and reducing maneuvers were used in the Balance and Yuntin and stomach Areas. At Fengfu (GV16) and Fengchi (GB20) points the needles were inserted pointing to the nose into the depth of 0.8 to 1.2cun. After soreness and numbness sensation had been obtained, even reinforcing and reducing maneuvers were applied. Reinforcing method was applied at Taixi (KI3), reducing at Taichong (LR3), and even reinforcing and reducing maneuvers at the other points. An EA apparatus of G-6805 Type was used for the head acupoints. The treatment was given once daily and 10 treatments constituted a course. After an interval of 3 days the 2nd treating course started. The estimation of curative effects was made following 2 courses of treatments.
Results: Of 22 cases treated, 8 cases were mild, 10 cases general, and 4 cases severe;18 cases had hemorrhag less than 10ml in volume (group 1) and 4 cases more than 10ml (group 2). After 2 courses of treatments, 10 cases in group I were basically recovered, 5 cases markedly Improved, and 3 cases improved. In group II, 2 cases were markedly improved, 1case improved, and 1 case unimproved. The total effective rate was up to 95.4%, and the markedly improved rate was 77.4%.
Conclusion: The therapy is especially effective for the patients with hemorrhage in mild
or general types. At the early stage of cerebellar hemorrhage, EA combined with the treatment according to the symptoms can elevate the basically cured rates, and attenuate the rate of handicapped possibility
