Objective: To use computer to imitate traditional reinforcing-reducing acupuncturing manipulation and increases the reinforcing-reducing function for electfo- acupuncture.

Methods: According to TCM classics and the experience of doctors, we set up a mathematical model of the manipulations and worked out corresponding software. Finally we succeeded in constituting the specific instrument through application of electronic technology. According to differentiation of symptoms and signs of asthenia and sthenia in clinic, we put the machine into operation of reinforcing- reducing manipulations, so as to substitute manipulation of needle for doctors.

Results: 51 random cases of outpatients were observed for this way and compared with common needling methods. Result indicated that this method reduced treatment course by 1/3 to 1/2.

Conclusion: (1) this instrument has good specific reinforcing-reducing function; (2) As for the computer imitating respiratory reinforcing- reducing manipulations, exerting electric pulses When the patient exhales produces reducing effect. On the contrary exerting electric pulses when the patient inhales produces reinforcing effect. This instrument can be seen as a significant attempt in integration of modern technology and traditional manipulations.
