Experimental Study on the Effect of Auricular Acupuncture Plus Jiangpu

Objective: To observe the effect of auricular acupuncture plus Ganiiang Houpu Decoction on visceral resisted pulling reaction in order to provide an experimental basis for application of combined therapies of acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs in surgical operation.

Methods: A total of 18 rabbits were randomly divided into control group, acupuncture group and Jiang-pu Decoction group. Platinum electrodes (two pairs) were respectively implanted rabbits' gastric antrum and the descending segment of the duodenum. Otopoint Jiaogan and Shenmen on the bilateral sides were needled and stimulated for 60 min by using a G6805 Electroacupuncture Therapeutic Apparatus in acupuncture group. Animals of Jian-pu Decoction group were fed with the decocted liquid of Ganjiang (Rhizoma Ziingerberis) and Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) (5ml/kg). After recording the control values of the intestinal electrical activity the gallbladder bottom was pull out-upwars with a force of 50g for 60 sec and directly applied with acetylocholine (Ach, 0.00l%,5 µg/kg), then changes of the duodenal electromyogram (DEMG) and gastric-
electromyogram (GEMG) were recorded again continuously for about 20 to 30min.

Results: In control group, before, after pulling and after abdominal administration of Ach, the amplitude values of the GEMG were 28l. l, 415.3 and 75 l .2 µv respectively; the index values of fast waves were 24.27%, 33.78% and 66.l7% separately; the amplitude values of the DEMG were l24.7, l39.l and 282.3 µ v; and the index values of the fast waves were 65.89%, 74.63% and 75.70% respectively. Results showed that after gallbladder pulling and administration of Ach, the amplitude of GEMG and index of fast waves increased signit1cantly in comparison with those before the pulling and administration (P0.05).

Conclusion: Both acupuncture of Jiaogan and Shenmen otopoints or administration of Jiang-pu Decoction preparation could significantly suppress gallbladder-pulling induced increase of GEMG and DEMG, favoring conduction of surgica1 operation.
