To observe the therapeutic effect of Gansu Capsule (GC), a preparation formulated by professor Deng Tie-tao, for chronic hepatitis C. 59 cases were divided into 3 coups randomly, group I (20, treated with GC and interferon), group II (21, treated with interferon), and group III (18, treated with GC). The content of alanine transaminase (ALT) all decreased in the three groups after treatment (P < 0.05 or 0.01). The rate of restoring ALT to normal level was 55.5%, 33.3%, and 27.8% (P < 0.05) and that for hepatitis C Virus RNA was 30 %, 19.1% and 50.5% in group I, II and III respectively after a course of treatment for 4 months. It indicates that GC can increase the effect of interferon on chronic hepatitis C and reduce its relapse.
