We has adopted a kind of Chinese medicine (named Anti-diarrhea Powder) to treat infants for diarrhea. The observation on the 126 infantile cases receiving the treatment shows that the treated group with Anti-diarrhea Powder has a better effect than the control group.

Methods: The 126 infants with diarrhea were divided into 2 groups (by random sampling) group A and group B. Group A was treated with Anti-diarrhea Powder. Group B was the control one, and the infantile patients ranged in age from 6 months to 24 months.

The main recipe for group A: the rhizome of large-headed atracthlodes 1000 grams, crude yam 500 grams, Roast Yam 500g, Fuling 1000g and the other 4 kinds of Chinese herbs (After being dried and made into powder form. Group B were treated differently: those with I o dehydration took (orally) fluid infusion, those with ?o dehydration, who had difficulty in taking orally the drug, received intravenous fluid infusion. The patients with high temperature received an extra treatment of Penicillin intramuscular injection or intravenous drip and took DPP or Smecta.

In 51 cases of group A, there are 41 cases of acute diarrhea, and 10 cases of chronic diarrhea. For the acute diarrhea, the results of treatment were 29 cases with markedly effective, the marked effective rate was70.7%, 11 with effective results, one with no effect. For the chronic diarrhea, the results were 4 cases with markedly effective, 5 with effective, and one with no effect. The total effective rate of group A was 96.7%.

In 75 cases of Group B, there were 60 cases of acute diarrhea and 15 cases of chronic diarrhea. For the 60 cases of acute diarrhea, the results were 20 cases with markedly effective, 11 cases with effective, and 29 with no effect, the non-effective rate was 48.3%. For the 15 cases of chronic diarrhea, the results were 5 cases with effective, and 10 with no effect, the non-effective rate was 66.6%. The total effective rate of group B was 48%.

The Anti-diarrhea Powder has the functions of anti-diarrhea, help digestion, regulating the flow of vital energy and removing obstruction to it and invigorating the spleen and stomach. It also has the functions of nourishing infants and strengthening their immunity. The anti-diarrhea medicine as a powder form is easy to take orally and it has no toxicity or side effect.
