In the present paper, the author put forward-accumulated phlegm Theory in traditional Chinese medicine, and explained the regulation of the formation and the evolution of accumulated phlegm (Chentan) from the cause of disease, pathogenesis and clinical characteristics and other important aspects.

The author considered that deficiency of kidney is basic cause of hyperplasia of prostate, and the disease is mainly located in lower Jiao. Clinically, it has characteristics of a long duration of disease, uneasy to remove and easy to form toxic substances. The hyperplasia of prostate and other senile diseases are closely related to accumulated phlegm. The theory provides basis of theory for treatment senile diseases with traditional Chinese medicine.
