Observation on Effect of Guoliang Matong pill in Treatment of Diabetic
Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Guoliang Matong Pill (GMP) in treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Methods: 73 cases of diabetic neuropathy were scored depending on symptoms and signs quantatively:
(l) On numbness of terminals. l score: with mild symptoms, slightly lowered sensation; 2 scores: with changing symptoms, now mild, now heavy and obvious weakness of superficial sensibility; 3 scores: with dysesthesia and superficial sensibility vanishing;
(2) On terminal pain. l score: occasionally occurred dull pain, autorelieved; 2 scores: occurred intermittently or persistent, sometimes mild, sometimes severe; 3 scores: occurred frequently with rather severe symptom;
(3) On skin ecchymosis. l score: few and limited locally; 2 scores: increased in size and occurred at two sites; 3 scores: large in size and occurred at over than two sites;
(4) Tendon reflex, including musculus biceps and triceps brachii reflexes, radioperiosteal reflex, patellar tendon reflex and Achilles tendon reflex. l score: reflex weakened slightly; 2 scores: dull reflex; 3 scores: reflex vanished. Degrees were classified depending on scoring, mild degree: accumulative total score (ATS) 22. All the patients were treated with GMP 4-6g, 3 times per day by oral, for 60 days as one therapeutic course. Tendon reflex, hemorheology and electromyogram (EMG) were examined before and after treatment.
Result: Changes in symptoms, signs, EMG and hemorheology of the 73 patients illustrated that the GMP treatment was effective markedly. Hemorheology changed significantly (P<0.0l) and EMG improved markedly, the effective rate being 99.5%. Conclusion: GMP has favorable effect in treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
