Objective: TO observe clinical effects of Zhicong Capsule in the treatment of senile dementia.

Methods: The Prescription was composed of placenta Hominis, Fructus formi, Fructus Crataegi, Semen Ziziphi Spinosae, Radix Astragali, Semen Sesami Nigrum. All above-mentioned herbs were ground and mixed, then put into capsules. 8 capsules were given per time, 4 times daily, after meal or before sleep. 4 weeks constituted one course of treatment.

Result: Among l24 cases, 52 were marked effective, 63 effective, and 9 ineffective. The total effective rates were 92.74%, the marked effective rate 4l.94%.

Conclusion: The Capsule exerts marked preventive and therapeutic effects on senile dementia, without any side effect.
