  Anajysis fOr ThWeutic Effct
  l. Criteria for theraPeutic effeCt:
Clinically cured: Diarrhea is cured with
formed stOOl once a day, and the fasting
  blood-sugar varies frOm 5.9 tO 6.6 mmljL.
ttis sitllation should last at least 6 months.
ReInarkably twroved: DiaIrha is cured, with

  Conunent
~It is found by the author in his long
clinical practice that senile tyPe II diabetes
comPlicated with inttwttent diMa is also
very cornmon ljke type I diabetes cOmPllcated
With diarrhe. Deficiency of the sPleen-qi and
deficiency of qi in Iniddiejiao go through the
whoe course of diabetes. Senile diabetes has a
long course of disease and can not be cured
easily. Dysfimction of the spleen in transport
and untfansformallon of the Iddney-qi induced
by diabetes often lead to diabetic diarrhea.
Jiang Tang ztu Xie Fang (ra W kpe H
  HyPoglycendc and Antidiarrheal Decochon)
may strengthen the sPleen, rePenish the
kidney, stOP the diarrhea, and regulate the
fimction of the intestines. It also has a funchon
to reduce the blood-sugar. In the decoction,
Dang Shen (Radix Codonopsis) can rePlenish
qi in the taldiejiao, regUlate funchons of the
stomach and intestines, and relieve thest and
resilessness. As a good hypoglycendc dmg,
Huang Qi peadix Astragall) can be used as a
Inain trig together with Shan Yao (anzoma
Dioscoreae), Ge Gen- (Radix PUerallae) and
In Mu (Rhizma Anemarrhenae) to treat
diabetes. This has been recorded in Yi Xue
Thong Zhong Can Xi Lu (E#$op#M&,
Records of Monal Chinese Medicine in
  CombinW with Westem Medicine). Shan
Yao (ANzoma Dioscoreae) is mainly used to
treat the diseases of bee organs, the lungs,
the spleen and stomach. It has the achons of
  Mshing the kidney-qi, strengthening the
sPleen and stomah, and stoPPing diarrhea
according to Ben Cao Gang Mu ($$mR
Compendum Of Materta Medica). Dr. Shi
JinIn, a haous coniemoraIy doctor of
  tradihonal Chinese medicine, was very
  k
Astragali) in combination with Shan Yao
(ANzoma Dioscoreae) as a pajx of effeChve
drugs to treat diabetes. Bai Zhu (Rhizoma
the sPleen, promote its transformallye funchon,
and edrinate damPness to stoP diarrhea. It is
confirmed by modem medicine that Bai Zhu
  (ANzoma Atractylodis MacrocePhalae) has
also an action of lowering blood sugar.
Combination of Bu Gu ze ooctUs Psoraleae)
and Rou Dou KOu (Semen Myrishcae) may
  ..
invigoat the spleen and kidney, and relieve
diaIrhea. He Zi (Frutus Chebulae) (sour
navor) and shi Liu Ye (Folinm Granati) have
good actions of astringency, antidiarrhea and
lowering blood sugar. Huang Lian (ANzoma
Coptidis) can clear the heat and Purge the fire.
There are some rePOrts POinting Oll that
  Mnistration of Huang Lian (anzoma
Coptidis) 3g daily may cure diabetes. To sum
up, the nine ingredients in dris decoction are
mutllally benefited and strCngthened, with no
adverse side-effects found during a long-
  Period Mnistration.
