Acupuncture
has been used to treat menopausal symptoms
for thousands of years with excellent results in easing
these symptoms without any side effects.
Menopause can be classified into three areas:
1.
Lack of yin leading to hyperactivity of yang
2.
Blood stasis as a result of qi stagnation
3.
A build-up of phlegm and dampness in the body
With menopause, the body goes through a dramatic change.
The
principle of acupuncture is to strengthen the individual's body and
re-establish a harmonious state of
the body. Acupuncture treatment regulates unstable
hormone levels during menopause. The energy flow is
regulated in the body by needling techniques.
According
to a report in Yunnan Traditional Chinese Medicine, #5, 1993, 31 women
with menopausal symptoms were
treated with acupuncture. Eighty-seven percent of
the women in this study showed significant improvement from
acupuncture therapy.
In
western medicine, doctors prescribe hormone
replacement therapy (HRT), but its long-term effects are still unclear. Acupuncture provides women with a safer alternative.
