Training Center of China Academy of
Traditional Chinese Medicine
China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCM),
founded on December 19, 1955, is the national center for research, health care and
education in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) under the direction of the Ministry of
Public Health and the State Administration of TCM of the People' s Republic of China. The
Academy is comprised of 11 research institutions, 5 clinical institutions, 8 national
specialized departments of TCM, and 2 national bases of clinical pharmacology.
In cooperation with the World Health Organization, 3
collaborating centers for traditional medicine, i.e. Clinical and information, Acupuncture
& Moxibustion, and Chinese Materia Medica have been established in the Academy. CATCM
has 506 professors and associate professors, 910 assistant professors and visiting
physicians. The medical library has 320, 000 volumes of books, of which 60, 000 are rare
and precious editions. The library is one of the largest such facilities in China. Notable
achievements have been gained in developing traditional Chinese medicine since the
founding of the Academy. By the end of June, 1995, the Academy had totally obtained 612
scientific achievements on TCM. The invention of new anti-malaria drug arteannuin was
awarded National invention Prize. Three professors of the Academy were elected
respectively academician of China academy of Science and academician of China Academy of
Engineering.
CATCM is a base training advanced personnels of TCM. Since
1978, 460 postgraduates graduated from the Academy. The Academy has conducted 32
international acupuncture training course and 10 international orthopedic training course.
A large amount of acupuncturists and orthopedists from more than 80 countries have
attended the courses. Many specialists and researchers of the Academy have gone abroad to
deliver lectures, undertake advanced studies, conduct investigation tours and attend
international academic conferences. And over 8,400 foreign specialists, scholars and
guests from more than 70 countries and regions have visited the Academy. As a result,
influence of TCM science has been extended in the world.
The Training Center of CATCM is an educational institution
of traditional Chinese medicine. With CATCMs academic support, the center aims at
promoting the traditional Chinese medicine through relevant academic activities and
providing an opportunity for foreign students who are interested in this area to improve
their medical proficiency. The center runs all sorts of training classes perennially at
regular intervals for studies of general and advanced courses of TCM, acupuncture and
massage therapy, as well as short-term training courses for special subjects.
