The clinical application of Liuwei Dihuang Wan（Pill of Six Ingredients with Rehmanniae）

Ingredients:

Shudihuang (Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparatae) 24g

Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni) 12g

Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) 12g

Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) 9g

Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan Radicis) 9g

Fuling (Poria) 9g.

Administration:

Grind the drugs into fine power with honey to make boluses; 15g per bolus, 15g each time, 3 times one day with warm boiled water.

Actions: Nourishing Yin of kidney and liver.

Traditional application:

This recipe can be used for deficiency syndrome of kidney Yin.

Manifestation: soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, tinnitus, deafness, night sweat, seminal emission, steaming sensation in the bones, feverish sensation in the palms, soles, dry mouth, sore throat, reddish tongue with scandy tongue fur, thin and rapid pulse.

Characteristic:

1. Nourishing Yin of liver, spleen and kidney, especially for deficiency of kidney Yin.

The monarch drug is Shudihuang (Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparatae), and is used in larger dosage, which means to enrich the kidney yin and essence.

The minister drug is Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni) which can nourish liver and kidney, and Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) which can renforce the spleen and kidney. Both of them can remain and consolidate the kidney essence.

Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) can promote diuresis to eleiminate dampness, and prevent Shudihuang (Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparatae) from generating internal dampness with large dosage.

Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan Radicis) can clear liver heat, inhibite the warmness of Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni).

Fuling (Poria) can eliminate the dampness of spleen, and help Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) to promote the Qi of middle engergizer.

2. Three tonic effects and three purgative effects, and focusing on tonic effects.

Shudihuang (Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparatae), Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni) and Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) are conbined to nourish liver, spleen and kidney, especially nourish kidney yin and essence. This is “strengthening water source can control predominat yang.” It means when yin-essence is enriched, the state of yin and yang will be in harmony, or when yang is able to maintain latent, fire will disappear naturally.

Reinforcement purgation and nourishment of kidney yin.

Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) can inhibitate Shudihuang (Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparatae), Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan Radicis) can inhibitate Shanzhuyu (Fructus Corni), and Fuling (Poria) can inhibitate Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae).

Clinical Application:

Liuwei Dihuang Wan（Pill of Six Ingredients with Rehmanniae）can be used in the syndrome of kidney and liver yin deficiency in the following diseases: Diabetes, aplastic anemia, leukopenic leukemia, prevention from cancer, ventricularpremature beat, periodic palalysis, myasthenia gravis, infertility, etc.
