How to treat cerebral palsy by TCM

Cerebral palsy is a medical condition caused by a permanent brain injury that occurs in perinatal stage. The main cause is hypoplasia of the infantile brain. There are many factors can cause hypoplasia of the infantile brain, such as premature rupture of amniotic membrane, brain trauma, amniotic fluid, dytsosia, premature delivery, or hypoxia in cesarean section, as well as the mother took some medicine in pregnancy that affected the development of the infantile brain, etc. Epilepsy is also easy happen in such condition. For cerebral palsy patients, the younger to be treated, the less sequelas. Generally speaking, it will be better to treat the patients who are under one-year old. The infant will recover very well in 3 months. For over one-year old patients, it will be necessary to insist on treating over one year.

Oriental medicine, western medicine, acupuncture, doing functional exercises and massage can be combined to treat cerebral palsy effectively. Western medicine, such as the medicine helping to develop intelligence and to promote cerebral maturing can be used, or Vitamin E , Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and ATP.

Oriental medicine, the actions are nourishing liver, kidney and spleen, smoothing the tendons and collaterals, such as Chuanduan, Nuixi, Gouteng, Tianma, Duzhong, Dannanxing, Quanxie, Wugong, Danggui, Chuanxiong, Chishao, Shudi, Jixueteng, Lingzhi, Huangqi, etc. decoct the drugs, and get the liquid(about 40ml), add a little sugar, let the infant finish it within 24 hours.

Acupuncture and massage, pricking manipulation can be used. The necessary meridians are Du meridian, bladder meridian, for Du meridian is the concentration of Yang qi. And then, spleen and stomach meridians can be selected to make the patients’ constitution stronger. Or liver and kidney meridians can be selected to treat the disabled infants.

Functional exercises, focuses on the disable infants, such as muscular atrophy, pes valgus (needle the inner side of the disabled limbs), adding acupoints massage. The disabled limbs, joints and fingers will do more exercises. After over 3-month functional exercises, the muscular tensions will recover obviously.

TCM has characteristic and excellent effect on Cerebral palsy; it is certainly possible for the Cerebral palsy patients to recover successfully via TCM treatment.
